Attwoods Wines

What is Attwoods Wines all about?

  • The passion is to make food focussed, minimal intervention wines, reflective of vintage, trying to stay true to the philosophy of 'without great risk, you cannot achieve great rewards'. This philosophy has been tested with the establishment of a 1.5ha close-planted Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vineyard in the marginal climate of Scotsburn, near Ballarat and management of 2ha vineyards at Glenlyon, in the Macedon Ranges. We hold high hopes for the future in these true, cool climate regions.
  • It takes three things: belief; opportunity and commitment. We started negotiating this equation some 10 years ago, and while inspired by our European roots, we are now forging our own path, endeavouring to create true Victorian, cool-climate wines from Ballarat and the Macedon Ranges.
  • In 2018, the Livingston family came on board, bringing considerable skills to the growing business. John's passion for food and wine paired with his business acumen, was the perfect fit.

Our People

Australian-born and educated winemaker and owner Troy Walsh began his journey into wine as a sommelier in London for 12 years (1990–2002), working his way up to some of the most exalted restaurants. In ’10 he began following the Flying Winemaker path of vintages in Australia and France each year. He also quickly ran his colours up the mast by focusing on pinot noir and chardonnay in Burgundy and Geelong.

Our Vineyards

Our endeavour is to make true cool climate Victorian Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with a focus on the central highlands of Ballarat and Macedon Ranges. This unique part of Australia has a continental climate, similar to the great cool climates of Europe such as Burgundy, France. The inland, high altitude location, sees warm growing days but cool nights which is perfect for a long ripening season with harvest in mid-Autumn.
